The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Last week, I had the enormous pleasure of being a background actor on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I have never done background work before, and it was definitely a case of jumping in at the deep end. There must have been about 300 actors present (the holding room was a giant ballroom at The Marriot Marquis in Times Square), along with 50+ makeup and hair professionals, 20 or more wardrobe experts and a mind-boggling number of crew and other professionals. The thing that impressed me the most about the experience was the enormous attention to detail at every stage of the production. To give just one example, during my initial fitting, the person who was putting together my wardrobe rejected a pair of shoes because the soles were too thick. The soles that would never be seen because I spent the entire shoot sitting in a theater seat. Amazing. Anyway, it was a long day, but I am so glad I was able to participate, particularly because I had the opportunity to watch the extremely talented principal actors at work.
